Can You Hear It?

When you start to listen, you’ll hear it everywhere. But, you’ve got to be paying attention. Are you?

I am.

That’s one of the benefits of playing a bigger game. When you do, you begin to hear a congruent message echoing throughout your world. It’s a message of love, hope and promise.

Once that happens, you begin to experience the reality of that in your life too.

When you begin to listen, you start to hear a still, small voice inside of you that speaks the truth and is aware of the truth. You will also begin to be conscious of the BS (belief systems) thinking that creates wars, lawsuits, and terrorism.

What you might hear if you pay attention is that you are the perpetuator of this BS. Like gossip, bullying and pranks, which at their worst can lead to the deaths of innocent people and at their best merely leaves a wake of hurt feelings and dis-ease.

If you become aware that you are perpetuating these mustard seeds of war, stop. Now. Forgive yourself and make a promise to never do it again. This is your opportunity to become aware so you can “be the change you want to see in the world” for real.

If you listen, you may also hear that you are at the core of something amazing. That the only gossip you indulge in is of the sort in which you talk about how amazing people are in your life. How much you enjoy them and their gifts.

You may even congratulate yourself for being the type of person who if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone or something, you say nothing at all. Like your mom always told you. That was some good advice!

Last week, in my class at Agape, we did something called spiritual gossip. It’s such a beautiful practice to be sitting in front of two people who are sitting behind your back talking about you and saying the most beautiful, loving, caring things.

You realize they don’t know you anymore than the people who may be talking behind your back and saying not so wonderful things and you learn to welcome all of it and focus your attention on yourself and being the type of person you want to be and stop worrying about the rest.

When you stop to listen, you’ll start to hear it. The consistent message of love, hope and promise. It’s in the air. Let me know when you hear it.

It really does change your life. One of the interesting criticisms of removing yourself from the negatives of life going on around is being out of touch with reality. But which reality? Evil, which does not exist in itself?

Instead, rather plug into Good/God, who is Love and Light and Life, so we can become it ourselves, which is the only way we can go back into all that mess and actually tranform it.

Yes but u often learn more from the negative things being said about you. Too often we are in denial about selfish and self-centered behavior especially as lawyers. If we only take in compliments, we fail to hear where our shortcomings are. The truth may often hurt, but often it only serves to help us. I disagree with Alexis here. Rarely does it create murder,lawsuits, and terrorism. Without truth in our profession, we have crooked lawyers. Gossip is often the kernel of truth…where truth has trouble getting a light shined upon it, gossip can be a powerfully beautiful seed of truth. Gossip is often microtruth.
That is what we are learning. We just have to responsible in it.

I think what Alexis is trying to say is that we have the power of choice in every moment to focus on positive, loving, life-giving messages or to focus on messages that build barriers, break down relationships, or create negativity. We choose. That is not to say that we don’t find the nugget of truth in gossip and learn the lesson that was provided to us in that nugget — that lesson is a blessing. But rather than dwell in feelings of self-doubt and doubt of others, we can rise above it to focus and delight in optimism, faith, belief in and love for ourselves and everyone around us. We become what we focus on, and I agree with Alexis that when we focus on love, hope and promise, we will see more of it in our own lives and the world. Thanks, Alexis.

I so appreciate this concept that you have brought up. At the end of the day – for me the question always comes back to “Where is the gift in this?” This can be especially challenging when experiencing painful events or words said by others. Yet when I go back to “Where is the gift?”, I can usually identify a new awarensses, insight, or appreciation for something within myself, an opportunity to grow , or of the multitude of beauty examples that are all around us if we are paying attention and actively looking for them.
