It is rare that you meet someone who has the power to touch lives and truly make a difference and that’s exactly what Dorit Shapiro, the President of the Gal to Gal Foundation did at a fundraising event held in her honor on October 2, 2008.

As she stood in front of friends, family and supporters, Dorit, who was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer two years ago, eloquently shared her personal story as well as her mission to help those like her battling this deadly disease. You can watch Dorit sharing her story here:

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfsBCddRRYM]

Four days later, this 38-year-old wife and mother of two was admitted to the hospital. On October 12, Dorit Shapiro passed away.

It is the hope of the Gal to Gal Foundation to keep Dorit’s memory and mission alive by sharing the video from this special evening that meant so much. Dorit Shapiro was a remarkable woman who even in her final days, was determined to share her message of hope while lending a voice to over 300,000 men and women who are diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer every year.

If you would like to honor Dorit’s memory, register today for the Gal to Gal Virtual Walk (www.galtogalwalk.org), join team Family Wealth and help the organization raise $250,000 so that the Foundation can grant hundreds of wishes for Stage IV breast cancer patients and their families this holiday season.

Or, if you are in the Los Angeles area and want to attend my fundraiser event for the Gal to Gal Foundation on October 25 at my house in Hermosa Beach, CA, call 866-999-3974 to get on the invitation list and we’ll send you the specifics of the event.

Dorit’s wish was not for herself. It was that we make this goal and that no woman living with Stage IV should feel alone in this journey. Please join Dorit’s virtual self and all of us today in her honor.

A Tribute to Dorit Shapiro:

October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I wanted to do something different this month to raise breast cancer awareness and joined Design-her Gals and their Gal to Gal Walk.

Yesterday, they started the 2nd annual Gal to Gal Walk – a virtual walk benefiting the Gal to Gal Foundation, the non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for stage IV breast cancer patients and their families.

Gal to Gal Foundation honors the courage of those diagnosed with Stage IV, and forges a global community of caring, intelligent individuals who want to make a positive difference in the lives of others. In many cases, Gal to Gal Foundation is a voice for those who may loose the fight but whose courage can inspire us all.

You can participate in the Gal to Gal Walk by creating your virtual likeness online and then watching yourself take a virtual walk across America. The walk will commence in the Virtual World of Harvard Square in Boston, MA, and concludes on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, visiting 29 cities along the way.

You can be part of this virtual walk by visiting Gal to Gal Walk and with a $5 donation you can create your own virtual character to be part of this important mission to help stage IV breast cancer patients and their families. Design-her Gal’s goal is to have 1 million registered walkers during the month of October.
