You Don’t Have to Invest $100,000

It was late 2008. From the outside, everything seemed to be going great …

I’d just published a bestselling book on legal planning for parents, I’d recently appeared on the Today Show, my business was on track to bring in more than a million dollars of revenue for the year, and I was teaching lawyers how to
serve their clients in a new way
.

And yet, I felt stuck, flat, like something was missing.

I knew there was something else … something more or perhaps it was something less. I didn’t know; I just knew it was … something.

A Quick Sidebar Re George Steinbrenner & the Estate Tax

As many of you know, I was an estate planning lawyer for almost ten years and today one of my businesses trains estate planning lawyers on a new way of being with their clients.

So, I can’t help but post something about George Steinbrenner’s death and all this talk about how his family saved $600 million because he died in 2010, a year when we have no estate tax.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can read about the estate tax and what Congress is doing about it.

What I want to make sure everyone knows is that:

Middle Class Mindset Keeping You Stuck With the Wrong Support People?

I was talking to a friend today and he said something that brought me to awareness about an issue I’ve been struggling with as I attempt to run multiple businesses and control everything happening in all of them.

He said “We are taught as middle class people that we need to control everything and it keeps us stuck.  We are taught that the true entrepreneur is the one who has his hands in everything and is in control of every piece.”

5 Roadtrip Lessons

My kids and I are driving from our home in Longmont, CO to our recent past hometown of Hermosa Beach, CA.

We’ll be house sitting in HB for the next three weeks and decided to drive instead of fly so we’d have the car.

Best decision I’ve made in a long time.

I was going to take my mom with us, but when it came time to leave on Saturday, we packed everything up and the car just felt too crowded with all of us.

Me On the New Oprah Network?

I broke through the resistance, made my video (thanks to the awesome team of Kia Kiso, J.P. Brennan and Lynne Mitchell) and it’s now up on the Oprah site and ready for your votes.

Please vote here:

For Twitter/Facebook …

Please vote for @alexisneely to get her own show the
new #OWN network. It’s time for a new normal around
conflict: http://budurl.com/4y8l

That’s a Wrap!

Well, I did it. I broke through the resistance and spent the day taping promo for my show, the Catalyst.

It’s a show about resolving conflict from the inside out.

About how every conflict is an opportunity to be more of who you are.

I’ll use what we shot today for the Oprah Show Host Contest.  And if that doesn’t happen, we’ll take it to the other networks.

This show is going to happen. I can feel it.

Things We Should Have Learned as Kids

Will your kids do the right thing when it counts? When you aren’t there and they are conflicted about whether to say yes or no?

This is exactly what I wondered last night when I realized that Kaia is now old enough to go to the park down the street with her girlfriends … alone.

I had visions of her friends offering her a puff on a cigarette or a pull of a joint … or worse.

So we talked.

We talked about how to know what to do and what not to do.

I Need Your Conflict!

Okay gang, this Oprah Show Audition piece is coming together.  And I’m beginning to see that this is about so much more than the OWN contest.  This show IS going to happen.

I’m moving through the resistance.  And I really need your help.

Next Tuesday, I’m going to be taping the video for the Oprah Show Host Contest.

Rather than just have me talk about the concept for the show.  I want to show it in action.

I need 3-5 of you who are in the midst of a personal or business conflict and willing to talk about all of it on camera, Suze Orman Show style.

What to Do When You Get Pissed

Here’s the fact of the matter, you are going to get pissed sometimes.  I sure do.

And there’s a right way to handle it and a wrong way.

Right way – communicate with love and open-hearted statements about how you feel.

Wrong way – shut down, close up, get resentful.

Doing that puts your relationships in jeopardy.   When you close down and take your anger inside, it transmutes into blame and victimization.

Then, we have to rationalize and justify where we weren’t wrong, where we were the right one in the situation.

Mother’s Day Special – Two More Kids?

From the time I was a child, I knew I’d have two kids by the time I was 30. I just knew.  And I did.  Today, they are 7 and 10.

I always thought there would be another two later on.  I think about that sometimes.  Because suddenly, later on is either within the next 5 years or so or it’s not going to happen.  And based on my current life, it’s not.  But, I remain open to the possibility.

I feel the quiet yearning. It’s very subtle.  And I’m very uncertain about it.
