But What About the Kids?

After my recent post about my break up with Russell, I received several comments that asked the same question so rather than respond there, I thought I would respond here.

The comments had the same general theme along the lines of … the breakup sounds like it went okay for you Alexis, but what about your kids?  How are they doing with it?

So I thought I would share more about that because it seems to reflect an important and fundamental misunderstanding about children and relationships, one I used to carry with me as well.

The Changing Nature of Relationship in the New Paradigm

I guess it’s time to get this over with and make the official announcement that Russell and I are changing the nature of our relationship.  Yes, that’s new paradigm talk for – we broke up.

Those words so do not represent the reality of what’s happening though.

A break up suggests a complete break, separation and end.  That is not what the new paradigm is about at all.  It’s about transition and transformation.

We Are in Training … Are You Joining Us?

I’m writing this after day 1 of Longevity Conference with David Wolfe and once again I am reminded of how important it is for us to get out from behind our computers and get into the community.

The world is transforming rapidly. I’m sure you can feel the evolutionary impulse quickening. And if you can’t, it’s very likely because you have shut down in numbness as a reaction to how much it all is to take in.

Numbness is not the answer, not in the emerging paradigm.

What Is the New Paradigm?

We talk a lot about the new paradigm.  But, what is it really?

Because it’s emerging as we speak, we don’t know fully.  Here is what I think I know about it:

  • Truth-telling more deeply than you ever have before is a key component.  And we have to learn to do this because it sure wasn’t modeled by our parents or teachers.
  • Living into the both/and and learning how to hold two opposing points of view within your awareness.
  • It’s beyond competition.  I hear a lot of folks talk about new paradigm and then see these same folks allow competition to keep them from supporting the dreams of others.

The Entrepreneur Equation – Is Entrepreneurship Right For You?

Are you thinking about starting a new business?  Or are you overwhelmed and overworked in your existing one?

Then, you need to meet my good friend and respected business strategist, Carol Roth.

Carol has a dynamic new book called The Entrepreneur Equation which I believe is essential reading if you want to thrive as an entrepreneur.  This is not the “same-old” re-hashed business B.S., but a no-nonsense book on how to stack the odds of business success in your favor and succeed in business for the long term. Check out the video above to see what I think about her new book (and see her amazing fashion doll – so cool!).

New Paradigm Partnerships: What It Really Looks Like Behind the Scenes

There’s a lot of talk these days about the new paradigm. But, do you know what it really looks like or how it feels or is it just a bunch of mumbo jumbo/marketing speak?

I think for many of us, it’s more marketing speak than anything else and I’m committed to changing that. And the only way I know how to do that is to let you in behind the scenes of what it really looks and feels like to live in the new paradigm, even when it’s hard to do that because it shows you parts of myself that I don’t particularly love.  But I’m more committed to truth than anything else, so let’s talk about it in the context of new paradigm collaborative partnerships.

Keep Trying to Find Your Passion While You Get to Work

Let me begin this by saying that Les McKeown is someone I know, like and trust.

But, when I read his recent blog post “Stop Trying to Find Your Passion and Get to Work” it broke my heart a little bit.

Then, when I saw that Charlie Gilkey was sort of agreeing and that Karrie Flatla was too, it broke a little more.

A New Paradigm, Totally Transparent Path to Promoting Others

Once you’ve been in business for a while, you will begin to receive lots of opportunities to promote other people and their work to your clients, your fans, your community.

When I owned my law firm (and even when I was an associate in a big law firm), I was heavily courted by insurance guys, financial advisors, CPAs and others like them who wanted to reach my clients.

Once I began appearing in the media, I was asked for mentions in articles and on the radio and TV.
