Real Online Business Models: Interview with Copyblogger’s Brian Clark

Since joining the world of online business in 2006, I’ve often wondered who and what is real and who and what isn’t.  There are a lot of bullshit artists out there and it can be hard to know who to trust.  So, I’m starting a series offering you interviews with online business owners I know are the real deal building real deal online businesses on a variety of different business models.  These interviews go behind the scenes into how they grew their online business, what it does and what you can learn from their experiences.

What’s Real Online?

In 2005, I began to dip my toe into the world of online business.

Up until then, I owned and operated a traditional bricks & mortar business – a boutique estate and business planning law practice.  While I loved having my own business, I did not love having to get up, shower, get dressed and leave my house to go into the office everyday.

I wanted to be more present for my kids.  By that point, I was a single mom and working away from home 6-7 days  a week, running my own business, was putting a huge strain on me and my family.

A Commitment to Blog for 30 Days Straight

When I re-launched this blog a couple of months ago, I did so with a commitment to make it a “real” blog, whatever that means.

While my definition of a real blog is evolving, there are two things I think make a blog “real.”

1. Regular posting.
2. Community.

Over the past couple of months, as I’ve been stepping into a renewed vision of my business and all of the upheaval that goes along with that, I’ve felt disconnected from both of those things.

Whether that feeling is true or not is not relevant. I feel it’s true.
