|Things We Should Have Learned as Kids
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010
Will your kids do the right thing when it counts? When you aren’t there and they are conflicted about whether to say yes or no?
This is exactly what I wondered last night when I realized that Kaia is now old enough to go to the park down the street with her girlfriends … alone.
I had visions of her friends offering her a puff on a cigarette or a pull of a joint … or worse.
So we talked.
We talked about how to know what to do and what not to do.

What to Do When You Get Pissed
Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010
Here’s the fact of the matter, you are going to get pissed sometimes. I sure do.
And there’s a right way to handle it and a wrong way.
Right way – communicate with love and open-hearted statements about how you feel.
Wrong way – shut down, close up, get resentful.
Doing that puts your relationships in jeopardy. When you close down and take your anger inside, it transmutes into blame and victimization.
Then, we have to rationalize and justify where we weren’t wrong, where we were the right one in the situation.
